FAQ

What is a PTA?

PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit association that prides itself on being a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education.

What is the goal of MFIS PTA?

The Milwaukee French Immersion School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a community of parents and educators working together to supplement the educational experience for all of our children. Your membership dues and donations will fund many wonderful school programs including Literacy Night, STEM/Math Night, Mardi Gras, French Resources, Back To School, and so much more. We hope you will join the PTA and volunteer your time to help shape the MFIS experience for our children.

How much does it cost to join the PTA?

Annual dues, which must be paid each year, are only $10 per individual/$15 per family.

Why do I have to renew my PTA membership every year?

Your PTA membership dues are crucial to maintaining quality educational and enrichment programs at MFIS. PTA dues help fund Literacy Night, STEM/Math Night, Mardi Gras, French resources, Back To School event, and so much more.

What can I do to help enhance my student’s education?

A key way to show support and involvement is by becoming a PTA member. Your membership helps support valuable enrichment programs and equipment that Milwaukee French Immersion otherwise could not afford. Through PTA membership you can participate in your child’s education by volunteering for a committee, attending meetings, voting on important PTA decisions, and providing ideas and feedback. Whatever level of involvement you choose, your time and efforts show your child that you care about their education.

What are the benefits of joining?

The PTA benefits parents as well as students/staff/school. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. Joining the PTA also means you get a “VOICE” and a “VOTE” in helping shape the education of your child at MFIS. Every dollar we spend is debated and voted on by the membership at our meetings.

IF I JOIN, DO I HAVE TO…?

Go to meetings?

No, but we’d love for you to come to general meetings! We discuss ideas, initiatives, and events at MFIS, and would love your input.

Volunteer or spend a lot of time at school?

Nope! Joining the PTA is not the same as volunteering. If you choose to volunteer we would LOVE the help—but volunteering is not required.  Likewise, if you choose not to become a dues-paying member of the PTA, we’d still be happy to have your volunteer support.

If I attend a PTA meeting, will I automatically get “volunteered” to do something?

No! We promise we will not assign you a job, but you might want one after you hear the exciting things that we’re doing and how much of an impact you can make on the school. We also want to hear voices from all grades, new and old families…everyone!

Who can join?
MFIS PTA is an inclusive organization that is open to all adults who care about children and schools. It is made up of parents, guardians, family, friends, teachers and members/business owners of the community.
